A Study on the Diuretic Effects of Dimethylol Urea

Abstract
The diuretic effects of dimethylol urea(DMU), synthetic organic compound, was investigatedand compared with those of urea, osmotic diuretics, in normal rabbits. In the etperiment, D.NIU was intraveneously injected to the rabbit in the dose of 125mg/kg and 250 mg/kg. The variations of urine volume and minerals (Na+, K-* and Cl-) in urine were measured at an interval of 15 minutes for 2 hours after the treatment of those drugs
The results of the experiment were as follows:
1) In a dose of 125mg/kg, DMU exhibited the remarkable increment on the diuretic effects of rabbit, when compared with those of urea. The increase of excreted urine volume was observed at 60 minutes after -adminstration of DMU in- the rabbits. The diuretic effect of DMU in a dose of 250mg/kg was shown to be similar to that of urea.
2) With the administration of DMU (125mg/kg), urinary excretion rates of sodium and chloride were significantly increasedat 60 minutes and urinary potassium at 90 minutes.
